We’ve had a few clients come to us asking if we can help them figure out why their house is making a noise. We are always happy to refer you to one of our preferred vendors, but we’re putting together a series of posts that will help give you an idea of what the noise could be.
What is the clanking sound I hear when I turn on the heat?
When turning your heating on for the first time in the fall, it’s very normal to hear some “groaning” as the heating system expands and rubs against the house. Do you have a baseboard hot water system? If so, you should certainly expect to hear some “clinking” when the heat kicks on. So when should you worry? If you hear clanking or knocking near the boiler itself, it’s time to call a professional. This is usually an early indicator that the circulator pump may be failing.
